University Hospital Freiburg is the largest cardiovascular center in Germany, treating 22,000 inpatients, carrying out 2,000 surgeries and 20 heart transplantations each year. The hospital is also distinguished for being home to the mosth coronary and valve intervention procedures.
The hospital has been the place of many firsts in medicine world. The first “drug-eluting stents” were implanted for the first time in Germany in the University Hospital Freiburg and was put to use worldwide in 2002. Europe’s first implantation of cardiac monitor and alert system was carried out in the University Hospital Freiburg. The University Hospital is currently conducting several researches in the cardiology specialty.
